Heat Islands – Causes and Solutions w/Families for Climate
September 25, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Families for Climate wants to help bring more awareness to the importance of well-designed urban infrastructure as a critical part of equitably improving Portland’s climate resilience for future heat events, and livability for residents in all neighborhoods.
We are hosting a guided walk in Lents to understand some of the problems inherent in much of our urban infrastructure, that result in deadly and inequitable outcomes when heat waves hit our city. Why Lents? Because Lents is the neighborhood where the highest temperature in Portland was recorded during June’s heat dome event: 124 degrees Fahrenheit.
Join us for a family-paced stroll to learn about what has contributed to these deadly inequities and what steps we can take, as concerned citizens and neighbors, to change things for the better.
Multnomah County Commissioner Vega Pederson will be joining our walk to hear from my neighbors about heat islands and share bout their work on the issue.
