Oregon Walks is excited to announce the naming of Zachary Lauritzen as our Interim Executive Director. For the previous two years, Oregon Walks was skillfully led by Metro Councillor-elect Ashton Simpson. As he transitions into this role, we want to thank him for his service to our organization.
While we are sad to see Ashton go, we are excited to welcome Zachary. For the previous seven months, Zachary has been organizing a community coalition along 82nd Ave as that street goes through a time of transition. Now, Zachary will lead Oregon Walks through this transition.
Some of you may be meeting Zachary for the first time! Before joining Oregon Walks, Zachary was a high school educator. As a coach, teacher, and administrator, Zachary was deeply invested in the power of public education as a way of giving all young people access to opportunity. He earned his undergraduate degree from Elon University in North Carolina, his masters and teaching credentials from Eastern Oregon University, and his Doctorate of Education from the University of Oregon. Zachary approaches advocacy in much the way he views education: make it interesting, make it engaging, and make it fun! Just as learning is a thrill, so, too, can be the work of transforming our transportation system to become more safe, equitable, and environmentally friendly.
